Workshops
Workshops are held at St. Luke’s Methodist Church 100 W. 86th Street and taught in rooms N101/102 unless otherwise indicated
All workshops will be 9:30 am – 4 pm unless noted differently on the supply list.
Fees for a full-day class are $40 for QGI members and $55 for non-members. (Half Day classess $25 QGI members $30 Non QGI members.) Workshop fees are not refundable unless the workshop is cancelled by the guild. A one-year QGI membership is $25.00 (Separate check required). Kit fees are payable by cash or check to the instructor on the day of class and are subject to change. A small charge payable to the instructor may be required for the use of their pattern(s).

February 11: Two Sipsters will be presenting their 3-Hour Postcard Adventure workshop. The two sipsters, Beth Wheeler and Lori Marquette are authors of the book, Altered Photo Artistry. In this workshop, they will demonstrate some of their techniques for making art quilts using a photograph. Using a combination of altered-photo and free-motion techniques, participants will create a fabric postcard ready for display or sharing with someone else. Even those with little free-motion quilting experience will enjoy this workshop.

May 14: Julie Lambert will be presenting her workshop: Cables and Borders.
This class focuses on finding the easiest way to machine quilt a design while moving beyond continuous line designs. Participants will be stitching over the same line more than once to eliminate starting and stopping as much as possible.

June 11: Edyta Sitar will be presenting a workshop on her Stars in Quilts. This is a workshop to highlight one of the most common loved quilt designs – the Star. The workshop will help you to create beautiful star blocks. The “Star in Quilts” workshop features 15 different star patterns. Using these patterns, Edyta will present ways to look at star blocks, layouts, sashing and different techniques to set stars in quilts.

Laura Wasilowski will be presenting at two workshops in August.
On August 13, the workshop “Inside Stories” will provide participants the opportunity to create a “perfect” room of their own complete with wallpaper, flooring, furniture and accessories. Through fusing techniques like free-cutting, collage building, bias fusing, fused weaving, and other textural devices, participant will make their own colorful interior setting. Furniture templates and a kit of hand-dyed fabrics are provided. Bring your imagination, but no sewing machine needed!
On August 14, Laura will present her workshop: Stitch after Fusing. A well placed embroidery stitch on the surface of fabric can bring quilts to life, giving the surface additional color, pattern, definition, and texture. In this class, participants will make a small flower quilt from a pre-fused fabric kit. Laura will demonstrate basic embroidery stitches using brilliantly colored pearl cotton threads, which are also included in the kit. (No sewing machine needed.)

On October 15 & 16, Esterita Austin will be presenting a two day workshop on Stone Portals. Using the wonderful fabrics available today with visual textures, participants will learn how to effectively use these fabrics to create portals.t Using Esterita’s fast and easy, no-fail technique for fused applique, participants will learn to juxtapose value to build a composition for depth and solidity. Esterita will demonstrate how to establish foreground, middle ground, and background in your quilts. this technique of applique will allow your quilts to move beyond surface design to a visual invitation to enter.
