Out to Lunch Bunch
The Out to Lunch Bunch meets on the 4th Thursday, January through October at 11:00 AM at Jonathan Byrd’s Restaurant.
Directions to Jonathan Byrd’s Restaurant: Follow I 465 to I 65 South. Take the Greenwood Exit # 99 and go right at the end of the ramp. At the first light, turn left and Jonathan Byrd’s is right there.
2010 MEETING SCHEDULE
March 25 11:00 -Speaker: Daren Redman
Daren will be demonstrating her technique of photo quilting. She asks that each member bring in digital camera pictures and she will show how to print and incorporate these into quilts.

Daren uses the bright colors of chartreuse, yellow, and red in her art quilts, reflecting her home in Brown County. Her recent work incorporates her travels to Tuscany and Spain, her photographs of sculptures, trees, and flowers as well as her own self-portraits. Daren hand dyes, paints and pole wraps her own fabrics and also uses the Japanese Shibori technique to tie, clamp and resist the fabric through an immersion dye process to create patterns on the fabric.
April 22 11:00 – Speaker: Sharon May. Sharon will be showing her quilts and machine trapunto techniques.

Sharon has been seriously quilting since 1995, making her first “real” quilt for her first grandchild. Entering her first quilt show resulted in first and third place awards. Her main interests are baby quilts, wall hangings and machine trapunto.
May 27 11:00 – Speaker: Anna Velez
Anna will be sharing her paper quilts and demonstrate techniques that she uses to create these that are also helpful in making traditional cloth quilts.
More about Anna and her work
Growing up in Muncie, Anna received her BFA in drawing from the University of Iowa in 1972. Anna was trained as a professional paperhanger, and was introduced to Japanese decorative papers by her twin sister in 1985. From 1994 on, she has used this paper to create paper quilts, exhibiting her work throughout Indiana, Illinois, New Mexico, and Massachusetts. She teaches her unique repeating-block design system at the Indianapolis Art Center. This system can be applied to traditional quilts.

Pat is one of the most popular speakers as she joins us again to share her sister, Eleanor Burns’ newest designs and techniques.
July 22 11:00 – Speaker: Carol Elrod
Carol will be sharing her newest techniques of “the human element” applique.
More about Carol and her work
Interested in art since childhood, Carol spent fourteen years at The Indianapolis Star as a reporter. A few years before retiring from newspaper work, Carol decided to learn how to make quilts inspired by the gift of several 1930’s and 1940’s era quilts from her husband’s grandmother. She began with a wall hanging using a traditional pattern and since then, she has taken many Quilt Surface Design Symposiums with various teachers. Her work has been show at numerous quilt shows, the Indiana Governor’s mansion, the Wholly Rags show of recycled art, and the Cape Coral Arts Studio.

Join us for a look at some of the newest patterns and ideas from 2010 and a sneak peak at the trends for 2011.

October 28 11:00 - Julie Wheeler
At this meeting, we will play Q-U-I-L-T for fat quarters and have our show and tell for the Quilt Challenge and New Year’s Resolutions. Members will also have the opportunity to fill out a questionnaire to provide feedback on the 2010 programs and make suggests for 2011 programs and speakers.
No Meetings in November or December.
OUT TO LUNCH BUNCH BLOCK OF THE MONTH - Blocks are displayed and raffled off each month. At the end of our year the names of those participating each month are put in a pot and a gift certificate awarded.
